Jam Weekend

Imagine a space where every corner thrums with potential, where the air is thick with inspiration and a shared devotion to music-making. This was the reality for Fisher Gate Point this past weekend, which pulsed with a blend of youthful innovation and musical talent during Jam Weekend.

As the fifth project of Circle of Light, Jam Weekend had big boots to fill. Having achieved bounds of musical success, industry recognition, and music awards, the COL formula has been strong since the start. In pushing the project further, Jam Weekend combined the most successful elements of previous years, and compiled them into a weekend-long workshop.

Over the course of two days, the 16-24 year old music aficionados got to know each other, their music tastes and styles, and formed impromptu bands. They quickly dove into brainstorming sessions, bouncing ideas off each other and fusing their diverse musical influences. Inspired by their peers, the state-of-the-art HOAM Music studio, and the industry professionals which provided gentle guidance, the environment of collaboration and mutual inspiration sparked a creative wildfire. Each participant came to life with the group support, contributing their unique voice and talents. The result was a dynamic blend of fresh, original music that captured the raw energy and innovative spirit of Nottingham's next generation of musicians.

Industry luminaries including Tiffany-Jade Holland, Molly-Mae Gardiner, EM, Chai, Adrian Rayworth and Tom Hodson were on hand as Mentors; not to lead, but to gently guide. Their presence was a beacon of experience and encouragement, providing just the right amount of support while ensuring the young creators remained at the helm of their musical journeys. Here, there were no rules, just pure, unfiltered musical expression.

The success was evident in the music; by Sunday, each group had written and produced a song. Some participants found their way into multiple tracks, while some honed in on curating one which best reflected their style. Jam Weekend concluded with each group playing or performing their track to the whole group. In an environment of musical appreciation, the experience was heart-warming, and a reflection of the art that had been created over the past two days.

In an industry characterised by its inaccessibility, Jam Weekend broke down barriers, proving that the future of music lies in the hands of young musicians courageous enough to create it. As the final chords faded, Nottingham was left not only with new songs but with a renewed sense of community and the promise of a vibrant, youth-driven musical future.
